Harassing Calls from Fraudsters in India

I wanted to provide an update on the payday loan scam that appears to be getting worse, unfortunately. There have been numerous media reports and warnings about this issue from state Attorney Generals. However, it seems that the publicity has done nothing to stop these scammers from trying to rip off innocent payday loan customers. In fact, they have even gotten more sophisticated and aggressive from what I’m seeing.

Here are some of the recent developments with this scam:

  • They have begun to use a variety of vague lender names, designed to mislead customers. They usually use some combination of “Cash” “Net” “USA” and/or “Advance.” Some outlets are reporting that they must have stolen data from CashNet USA since they use these names. I believe this to be completely false and giant leap being made due to the fact that they use Cash and Net in their scam. It would make sense to do this because CashNet USA is the largest online payday loan company in the U.S.
  • They have started asking for smaller amounts. In my original article on this scam, I noted that they usually asked for $1,000 or more. However, they are now asking for lower amounts.
  • As I posted earlier, they have started sending fraudulent payday loan collection e-mails. These e-mails are coming from legal@lawofficeusa.us and show up in most e-mail programs as LawOfficeUsa. I can’t believe this will last long, as they should get blocked for Spam pretty quickly.
  • They have also started sending debt validation letters, which are obviously fake. A common tactic that is often mentioned in forums and elsewhere on the internet is asking an agency to send a letter validating a debt (personally, I don’t recommend this unless you truly don’t know if you actually owe the debt or not). The scam company has responded by sending fake validation letters by e-mail. The e-mail is a dead give-away that they are fraud since any real agency will send letters via the mail.

Later this week, I’ll post an article with some tips and tricks to help identify these fraudsters and confirm they are not a real collection agency collecting on real payday loan debt.

Really strange, I happened to answer phone at work and caller asked for me. Informed me they were following up on law suit against me for Internet Criminal Payday loan activity, the person said he thought I was aware and wanted to transfer me to someone named Chris who would explain, before he transferred I asked him for number so I could call back in private, I ‘m not sure if I wrote number incorrectly, but in went straight to some voice mail I left a message, no one has called me back. I have not received any type of correspondence written or phone call regarding which Payday loan has filed suit.

I received a call from someone regarding an affadavit they were filing in California for E-Payday loans. I then requested where the funds had been deposited because I never received any. I checked the account number they gave me and there was no record of the fund ever going onto my debit card account. Pus the account number they gave me was 1 digit off, but I may have written it down wrong. I requested an email stating all the facts about the amount deposited. When I received the email it was from the Crime Bureau of Investigation, Macomb, MS 34972. I checked this out on the internet and there is a McComb Mississsippi spelled differently and the zip code was for Okeechobee Florida. How lame is that. Plus the wording in the document was obviously not from a business professional. It also contained no information of the ammount deposited and the fees incurred which a legitimate document would have and it would be sent in the mail. I called the number and of course it went right to voicemail. How can I report this. I have a phone number to call from the collections manager with an extension but its to early now for me to call because its PST. I am EST. I am fed up with these scammers, but their fairly easy to spot if you know English half decently. They seem to orginate from overseas where their diction isn’t the same as we use here. Lots of improper word useage.

I have been a target of this payday scam for about six months now. Everytime some foreigner with a thick Hindi accent claiming his name is “Brian Jones” or some anglo sounding name tells me in broken English that I owe money from an unpaid payday loan. His accent was so thick it took me 15 minutes just to figure out what the call was about. He threw out a lot of terms like ‘lawyer’ and ‘legal action’ and ‘jail.’ (which he had not trouble pronouncing) all over the place.

Per common sense, I asked him to send me the information concerning this supposed debt. He told me he’d already sent it to me six times, which I knew to be false. When I pressed him, he sent me to his ‘supervisor’ who had an even thicker accent and anglo sounding name, then again to another supervisor, and so on about five times. Each time I was transferred, they said the same thing: pay us now or it will go to court. I refused, simply because I am not going to pay some yahoo money just because some guy calls me and tells me I owed it.

I also checked the payday loan place and even though I did take out a payday loan about a year ago, I was square with them and owed them nothing. Still, I go through this every three weeks or so when the scammers call me all over again. I am really getting sick of this. Is there anything I can do to get rid of these idiots? They have my cell phone, so blocking it is out of the question.

Neil Vincent the same exact thing happened to me today. Hindu Indians, male and female. Told me I’m going to jail and will have to pay $8000.00 because they have 3 charges on me, internet fraud, stealing, default on a PDL. They wanted me to send them my credit card number and a copy of my drivers license. So, I called every lender I’ve ever done business with and did not owe anything. And they knew about this scam. It’s so crazy 510 area code phone number, fax is 206 area code. Ron Willis and Sabrina Cruz.

Today is Friday March 11, 2011. I have recieved calls from this guys all week. they were blowing up my cell phone everyday all day. I spoke to them Tuesday and they told me that on Thursday I was going to get picked up and taken to court. I was so scared cause at that time I didnt know it was a scam. They told me that I took out a loan with American Payday Loans and they were pressing charges against me. I never took out a loan with themn, so I google them and call on of the locations in Iowa and woman infomed me of the scam and not to pay them anything. I started researching this on the internet and found that it was in fact a scam. They next time I talked to them was Thursday the day I was to be picked up, they said they need my attorney information and I told them I was going to get a attorney. They hung up and all day today I got not even 1 phone call from them. The number they called from was 661-213-9478, and spoke to a Allen Young

I get so many calls from these retards. They all have the same script and cant deviate for s**t. I am coming up with incredible ways of messing with them. My favorite to date, has been repeatedly calling them with my headphones cranked up and next to the speaker on my Iphone. When they answer they get a full ear blast of System of a Down, or Slipknot any metal that I have to irritate and aggrivate. Best song thus far though was Lords of Acid, Show me your P***y, they actually listened for a minute and a half before hanging up. Other favs include, answering the phone, f**k you? in the nicest possible tone and saying only that the entire convo, generally wont last long. The Ref Whistle, everytime they try to talk, BLOW IT. Or anytime they interupt you, BLOW IT, its your choice, I opt for blowing it when they interupt me, they stay on the phone longer in hopes of over talking me. Lets make it fun for us since the government cant do jack about this situation. Push back when they call. THEY CALL YOU, you have the right to say whatever you want. I told the woman who called me this morning I was going to fly to India, sacrifice her cow on her desk, and bring the meat back to TX for a redneck BBQ. Get creative.

    Hello All:

I started messing with these guys too. I’ve been receiving calls off and on for about 3 years now.

My story is the same as everyone else’s, American names…heavy middle eastern accents, threatening jail, etc., so I won’t bore you with all the repeats.

Yesterday I was having fun with one…he said their office was at 11000 Wilshure Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. I googled it and that is the Federal Building in downtown L.A. So, I called him back. I said “since you work for the government and are in the state of California, then you will know who the governor of California is….tell me, who is the governor of California?” He said, “what do you mean? What mean governor”? IDIOT.
I said, “you WORK for the federal government and your office is located in CA and you don’t even know who the governor is?” he responded with a fake laugh “ha ha haaa haaa haaaa haaa..you think funny? you so funny…yes you funny…haha hahahaa..” yes he spoke like that as I am sure you know. very broken English.

I said, “ok, let me make this one real easy, who is the president of the United States?” His answer, “no.” I said, “what do you mean no? are you telling me you do not know who the president is?” he said, “it doesn’t matter, pay or you go to jail. Someone is coming for you right now!”

I said I had to go but it was fun playing with him and I looked forward to be amused again sometime soon.

I am loving all these posts. Since there isn’t really any way they can be stopped, we should just have fun messing with them. These are all great ideas!

Just an FYI, I got another type of Indian scam call today. They claim they are from Sprint and will save me lots of money with their “Wide selection of programs.” Of course, to unlock all this, I needed to give them my personal info.

As it so happens, I have Sprint, have for like 11 years now. I told them I was with Sprint and as such they should have all my billing info. The woman, named ‘Nicole’ said she did, but needed me to tell her so she could confirm it. I told her if she had it just read it off to me and I will tell her if she had it right. She tried some excuse like she needed my personal information to unlock the security measures. Rrrriiigggght!

I just told her I wasn’t buying the bull***t and not to call me anymore. Sure enough, I get a call from her like 30 minutes later, this time she offers to connect me to her supervisor. No, I said, do not call me anymore, period, and I hung up on her. So far, she hasn’t tried back, but if her friends the lawsuit scammers are any indication, I will hear from her again.

I think the payday loan mailing list is being sold to whoever has money over there now.

I have had at least 8 of these A-holes try this crap. The last one who called said, “may I speak to Scott XXXXX” (in his hindi accent)? I simply told him “Not if it is about trying to fraudulently collect on some bullXXXX debt”……… (CLICK) was the next sound I heard Never heard from him again… As soon as they find out they are not getting a dime they move on to their next mark….

WHat is really ashame is I have talked to the FBI, the POLICE etc and offered to persoanlly get these SOB’s on the phone and keep them on long enough to get a trace….. they just say they are calling from offshore and show very little interest in it…

Scott, that is a very good tactic, and pretty close to the one I used. I just got a call about ten minutes ago from these jackholes. This, after a seven week break from them. I just bombarded them with questions about the alleged ‘lawsuit’ and repeatedly refuted everything they said.

“You owe money from an unpaid payday loan.”

    “No I don’t.”

“It is from an internet payday loan company.”

“I’ve never used an internet payday loan company.”

“But I have your last four digits of your social security number, and your personal information.”

“Anyone with a few bucks can buy personal information cheap in the third world, like, Oh, say — India! — and use it to commit fraud on the phone.”

“You will be summoned to appear in criminal court.”

“An unpaid loan is not a criminal matter. It’s a civil matter.”

After that they hung up. Scott is right. Once they get the idea you aren’t buying their bull$hit, they move on to someone who will.

I too have been bothered by these a-holes many times. I had one so mad at me because I told him my name and used an Indian name of someone I knew. Boy was he confused, he did not know what to say and hung up on me. Another time I said just send me the information about suing me, they said they were not suing me just wanted me to pay them, again I said mail to me, they hung up on me again. The police tell me to just change my number but then I feel that they won by making me do that. Has anyone had the calls stop?

So I just got the call too I was really upset until I googled it to realize it was a scam. The weird part is they called me saying I was used as a reference to my friend collen’s unpaid payday loan. Has anyone else had this happen to them? I think its really weird that they have been harassing her and then somehow found out my number and they are now calling me.. are they getting more creative? Sheesh

I had this problem for a month now…I got a call which was displayed as all zeros on my caller id so Ignored it. There was a voicemail saying that I needed to call an attorney for unpaid loans. I called back it was a 760 area code which is a California area code. The mans came was ROBIN JACKSON and had a real thick hindi accent. He claimed I owed $3200 in payday loans. So common sense tells me to ask for his info and everythime I ask it was either him overtalking me, or him sayin that he sent an email which wasn’t true at all. So today I looked it up online to research and low and behold I’m not the only victim. So yeah its DEFINITELY a scam

I just started getting these calls last week. I remember when I applied for a payday loan but I never actually received the loan. This was in Jan ’10. Now they are calling me saying that I took out a loan that was deposited into my account Oct ’10. I said no I never did. They said everyone says that, get a lawyer you will need it. They said monday morning they would call my job because I “involved” my job in this. At that point i didn’t know what the hell this was about and didn’t realize it was a scam. SO i called my bank and thats when they filled me in on what was going on. I can deal with them calling but what bothers me is them calling my job. Who knows who they would speak to if they called my job. So when they called and left a message today I called back and started messing with them. I asked them who is the Governor of NY and they were silent for a minute and then said dont you know. I said I don’t live in NY, you do. And they hung up on me. I called back a few times messing with them and now they won’t answer my calls. Even when I block my number, makes me wonder if they are able to somehow unblock numbers. Anyway, I warned my boss and the receptionists about any crazy calls they may get. So far nothing!

Got a call from a Officer Jack Thompson saying he’s going to arrest us for an unpaid bill. Heavy Indian accent, contemplating making a website to help stop these guys. They can’t be traced. Already filed complaints with FTC, they told me to file complaints with the FBI, problem is their number can’t be traced. I called back a 213 area code that they are calling from they call me back my caller id says it’s from a 999 area code, tempting to call today just to get them to call me back and have it traced. They are threatening to have us arrested which is illegal as hell. The guy can’t even speak proper english. Need to stop these scam artists ASAP.

I just got a call from them again. they have called me a dozen time. Once the guys name is John Smith, another time David Scott, always thick Hindu accent and very arrogant, overtalking me and threatening me with lawsuits and criminal action with my local police precinct. They called my job once and since I don’t like people demanding and yelling shit at me over the phone, I lost me coool and screamed at ‘John Smith’, “don’t f***in’ talk to me like that, I’ll ask the F***in’ question you f***!”… I work in an office with college students and they all heard me and turned and look at me with their mouth open, I was embarassed, but just then my boss walked in who is amazing and friends with me and they demanded to speak to my boss, I said okay, and handed the phone to her. She asked them who they were and why they were calling, and I listened on the ohtre line. She identified herself as my boss and they they started screaming at her saying that they did not believe she was really my superior and they she was lying and which point she kindly asked them to not call back anymore or she would contact the authorities, etc… She hung up and they haven’t called my job back since, but they called my cell again today. After I heard David Scott’s message, I called that number back, where another Indian accented fellow answered, ‘Amercian Law Offices’(my asssss) and I dtold him in a vicous tone of voice thatt I knew what he was about, that I knew that they were scamming Americans and that if they wanted to come to my house, they were welcome to come and discuss it over me and my machete, I told them to stop calling me and a hwole lot of other ‘niceties’ and such. man, those pricks are annoying!

I kept asking for something in writing even by email, and they said they don’t do that, that the are a law firm. I got transferred 4 times and was getting ready to be transferred again. They even called my work number. I got upset because the even threatened to pickup a friend, and had her name. One guy kept saying “oh my g_d” when I said I didn’t know what he was talking about and wanting in in writing. It’s funny that they all have very “american” names.

These business is going in india in many states. They are collecting funds from the U.S. people and force them to make a payment. They do hve a script as below…
This is ============ and i have you listed as the primary suspect on a case file which is going to be downloaded in your county court for further legal actions. The nature of my call is to ascertain your attorney’s information so tht i can be able to fax the affidavits to your attorney before file ing the case against you…
They give three false allegations . They do hve to information of the people of US with SSN, ADDRESS, BANK name and ACC, PHN NO, WORK NO, AND REFERENCE NUMBER. I kindly request you all to stop paying the payments cause u hve no loans pending and they are earning in rupees… India is great and one of the best country but there are some people who are doing this to earn a lots of money and the US payday loan sites should stop giving “LEADS” (they are giving personal informations of the people in india who are applying for the loan in united states so in india it is easy to earn money sitting and dialing and collecting money from U.S. people) to india.

I too have been geting the same s@$t from these retards. They keep calling me and demanding money. They said that I got a pay day loan from them. I told them I never did. They bought my personal information from a payday loan application. They repeat the info to me. They said that proves I took out the loan. I told them that proves nothing. Everyone who has gotten these calls do what I did. I went into my bank, and had my account closed and reopend under a new number. I have not heard them actually going into someone’s account and getting their money, but it could happen. Protect yourself against these lying, stealing bastards. They are so stupid. They use American names. I called the last one Apu or what ever the f*$k his name was I got something for his ass if he ever calls back. I bought one of those air horns you always hear at sporting events. If they ever call back, I will blow it into the phone. The sound will probably blow his or her’s eardrum. That will teach thaose creeps a lesson. Do not fall for their scar tactics. No one can have you arrested for not paying a loan. These are stealing middle eastern assholes who are going to rot in Hell when God gets them. Buy the air horns people. Let’s unite against these jerks. They probably use the money they steal for terroists attacks against Americans. These assholes are terroists and need to be stopped. If we all unite, they will everntually stop. My cell phone rang today and when I looked to see who was calling, the incoming call was from 000-0. I thought, that’s strange, so I answered it out of curiosity. It was “Kevin Miller”. He spoke with a heavy east Indian accent, broken english, grammatical errors, etc. He told me he was a lawyer and told me I was being charged in a legal matter because I owed money from American Pay Day Loans. I told him I never took a payday loan with that company. He said that I had ignored countless e-mails sent from them and so they were pressing charges against me. I never got any e-mails from an American Pay day Loan or from any pay day loan company regarding any of this. So I asked for information about the loan I had supposedly taken out, he said that he couldn’t get me the information…the loan had been turned over to him and he was just calling to tell me that the sheriff would come to my house if I didn’t take care of $850.00 that I owed. If I was taken to court and found guilty, I could owe $8500.00. However, if I agreed to make payment arrangements today, he would stop all actions. I told him that I wasn’t about to give him a dime and that I would be contacting my lawyer. Coincidentally, last year I got several calls from “Ron Johnson” – same thing – heavy east Indian accent and very broken english with grammatical errors. This guy would call every day until I finally yelled at him telling him that I didn’t owe any money for the supposed loan he was accusing me of, he was harrassing me, and that I was going to report him if he called again. I never heard from these people until today. Here is what they say – same scripted message every time – “This message is intended to (my name)”….same bullshit lines. Both of these men raised their voices and seemed to get very frustrated with me when I said that I couldn’t understand them and asked to connect me with someone else who I could better understand. Both times there was loud feedback in the background which made it even more difficult to understand them. Last year, “Ron Johnson” also called my parents house asking for me. It sounds like these guys are reading from a script. “This message is intended to (my name). The very second you receive this message I need you or your retained attorney of record to return the call. My name is Kevin Miller and the hard line to my division is 661-450-8274. Don’t disregard this message, return the call as this is extremely time sensitive. If you don’t return the call and I don’t hear from your attorney either, all I can do is wish you good luck as this situation unfolds on you. My name is Kevin Miller don’t disregard this message….etc. BULLSHIT!!! I can’t wait until he calls again because I am gonna mess with him big-time…

They have started in with a new number now (347-697-1454), so the game begins again! Here are some creative ideas on how to deal with these idiots:

“OK, first off, everyone CALM DOWN and don’t freak out about these guys. No matter what they say or what they threaten, they CAN’T do anything to you. I know every one of us has tried filing reports with law enforcement, FTC, FBI, ic3, etc. It doesn’t seem to work, because these guys aren’t even in the USA. So take a deep breath, relax and don’t let them ruffle your feathers.

Now, I started getting these calls about a year ago. I have personally used all of the tactics below, and they do stop calling me for about 6 months…so the way I figure it, a little time out of my day to give them back a taste of their own medicine is worth it for 6 months of peace and quiet. Keep in mind, as well, every minute you spend screwing with them on the phone is a minute they are NOT able to scam someone else. (And the only way they will ever stop is if nobody pays them any money ever again!) And now for the fun part—how to screw with them back. I will start with the easiest and move up the line with the more time consuming:

If you have no time to mess with them:
    a. Just don’t pick up the line. Let it go to voicemail and delete the message.
    b. Pick up the line and immediately hang up. Keep doing it until they stop.
    c. Pick up the line and use an air horn or police whistle blown straight into the mouthpiece of the phone. (I personally like the canned airhorn the best.)
    d. If they call while you are driving, turn the radio up as loud as possible and answer the line on speakerphone. Don’t say anything, just let them listen to the blasting music. Heavy metal music works best, but I personally have a CD with Star Spangled Banner on it, so I play that as loud as I can. Just leave the line open with the music blasting until they hang up.

If you have a little more time to mess with them:
    a. Ask if they are related to the deceased (insert your name here as the “deceased”) or just a family friend, because “the viewing of the body if for family only, but the memorial service is open to everyone.” Ask if they would like directions to the funeral.
    b. Simply tell them that you have read all about their scam on the internet & seen it on the news on TV, so you aren’t paying anything. Don’t listen to any response, just hang up on them after saying this.
    c. Use this one only if you are willing to be as crude as they are: Using the name they gave you (i.e., “Officer Mike Taylor” was the last one I got), say, “Is the this THE Officer Mike Taylor I read about on the internet? Is it true what the posts online say, that you have such a small d**k that even camels won’t have sex with you?” Then hang up on them.
    d. (For this one, I must first apologize to PETA and all vegans, but it highly offends the scammers because they consider cows to be divine beings.) Tell them you don’t have time to speak with them, because you work at a slaughter house and you have over 100 cattle you need to “kill off” before the end off the day. Then hang up on them.
    e. Are you good with theatrics? Then try this one…it was actually highly effective for me: Put on your deepest, scariest, growliest voice and just whisper into the phone over and over, “I command the demons to come for you, I command the demons to come for you, I command the demons to come for you…”. Just keep whispering it over and over until they hang up. I think this one worked well because they are quite superstitious.
    f. If you know a foreign language, answer the phone in it and just keep talking in unintelligible phrases. The more obscure the language, the better. Don’t know a foreign language? Pig Latin seems to work just as effectively.
    g. Ask if they are calling from the convenience store, and can they give you last night’s winning lottery numbers, because you are sure you have won. For any response they give to it, just keep yelling over and over, “I won! I won!”
    h. When you answer the phone, ask them where your pizza is and tell them because they didn’t get it to you in the “30 minutes”, you’re not paying for it. Hang up.
    i. Tell them you are at work right now, but to call you back on your “home” phone, and give them this number: 202-835-0778. (This is the scam and fraud reporting division number at the FBI.) Hang up.

If you are REALLY p***ed off, and have plenty of time to screw with them:

    a. Go on to Craig’s List and post an ad in the wanted section or services section saying you are looking for a payday loan company because you need a loan. Ask they call you right away. List the scammer’s name and phone number as the contact information. (This sends the scum-sucking bottom feeders off to call the other scum sucking bottom feeders…LOL)
    b. Go online and look for every free daily horoscope, free insurance quote, free mortgage lending, etc., and click on the “have an agent contact me” link. Type in the scammer’s name and phone number. Viola! Now they will get flooded with telemarketers as well.
    c. If you would like to blow off steam, and have no problem with swearing, just keep calling them over and over pretending you have Tourette’s Syndrome by just screaming obscenities in the phone until they hang up. This works pretty good in the car, because no one else can hear you and it is a good tension reliever.
    d. Log onto these payday loan sites and enter all of the scammers’ information on it. This way they might even wind up on their own list!
    e. (Do NOT attempt this one unless you have state of the art spyware & virus protection, and even then, you still are taking a risk): Go into your spam folder on your computer. Find every email you can about “you won millions of dollars” or “the Nigerian lottery” or something to that effect. Send it back with all of the scammers’ contact information.
    f. Research for the phone numbers to both local and national TV news stations “breaking news desk”. Again, tell the scammer on the phone to call you at your “work number” and give the number to the news station’s phone number. (Hopefully, if the news stations get enough of these calls, they will start airing more stories about it, reaching more people and reduce the number of victims that fall for this.)

Again, before sending money to ANYONE, stop. Think. Do you have any paperwork showing you owe money? If not, ask for paperwork. If they refuse to send it, they are scammers. A real collection agency will always: 1. provide paperwork; 2. never yell or cuss at you; 3. never require you to pay first before receiving paperwork; 4. never identify themselves as an officer of law enforcement; 5. never threaten you with jail, arrest or physical harm.

Good luck everyone, and if you need any help or suggestions, feel free to email me at rockk9s@aol.com.”

I was contacted from 661-375-7071 and tod by a Cathy Martin that she was from the CYBER’S CRIME Unit of THE LAW FIRM. Sounds like a cartoon, lol. I engaged her in a conversation and started talking dirty to her. She started talking dirty back to me, which confirmed my suspicions that she was trying to scam me. I told her that no employee of a self respecting law firm in the US would talk to me on the phone the way she was. She still insisted that she was legit. Supposedly, she is going to kick my … when I go to court tommorrow. LOL!!!!! I told her to just make sure that I get a comfortable cell when she puts me in jail. We will see how long this will keep them from calling, I’m sure not long. I will try to b more creative next time though. Oh, in addition, I called the number she left several times one right after another and she asked why I was harassing here. Now isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black! I simply responded why are your trying to steal my money? She hung up! Think I’ll try calling her back again.

Same here. I have been hearing from these a**holes for weeks now. Even if you tell them you know its a scam, the best that happens is that they stop calling for a month or two, but they always come back. They aren’t very creative, they just keep trying to run the same scam. Same thing. Each time.

After you tell them it’s a scam, best thing to do is just call them out, starting with their names. It is so ridiculous that these guys (unlike most people, I have not been called by a woman) with super thick Indian accents are calling and trying to pass themselves off as ‘average’ white Americans for credibility. But I always question their names. They HATE that, and I find its the best way to get them riled up, then their whole operation falls apart and they usually just hang up on you and leave you alone for a while.

If you are feeling extremely cocky, I usually call them by some average Indian names as I talk to them. “Oh, come on Aja, I know your real name isn’t Kevin Jackson. with an accent like that, Gupta, you aren’t fooling anyone.” Some of the names I have used (courtesy of the Naming Sourcebook by Writers Digest) are:

    Ahriman
    Guga
    Hasin
    Raji
    Girish
    Hari
    Iswara

When they get pissed (and trust me, they will) just ask them if that is a name below their station. India is very much a caste driven society and many names could be considered ‘beneath’ them.

Another way to get them confused is to ask them for their government grade and/or Employee Identification Number (E.I.N.) which any legit government employee will know. Asking them who is the governor of the state they allegedly call from (they usually say California for some reason, although I’ve heard Washington DC before too). Any way you call it, they never get these questions right and will usually hang up, or at the least, transfer you to their ‘supervisor’ who sounds like he’s sitting in the next cube over in a call center.

Another trick I use is to give them my ‘home phone number’ of 469-916-3343. This is the Texas Meat Packers Association!

This is such a joke. I just keep calling them back and leaving them on mute. I keep doing that, they keep threatening me that I will lose my job. This last time I talked with them. I found out that the supposed load which started off at $250.00 is now a $500.00 loan and that in order to get them to stop their legal actions, I would have to pay them $8,500. I just laughed, they cussed at me and hung up. I called them back about 20 more times. The phone calls will stop for about three more weeks and then we will go through the process all over again. I just have fun with it.

I have received several voice mails from “Danny,” he called me four times while I was at a wedding. I finally called, “Danny,” back and spoke to Officer Tim of the Orange County Law Firm. I live in Northern California and recognized the number calling was from Sacramento, not Orange County.

After one failed attempt at REALLY trying to understand Officer “Tim,” I said “I can’t understand you, just send my warrant in the mail, Tim. And Tim said “fuck you, ass hoe.” Not very nice, Tim. So I called back, red hot mad.

After having to repeat my phone number eight times, I spoke to someone else. Bobby. Bobby’s accent was worse. He grew angry and asked for my attorney. So I patched in my girlfriend. Bobby named off all these “counts” that I was under arrest for (odd, in America we arrest people in person). She asked for more information and Bobby said “I’ve read it to you already, now come to the court house and pay your fine.” I said “look, Bob, I cant afford a flight to India, but I’ll tell ya what….” Bobby didnt like that, he started to cuss at me. “What reputable collection agency or “law firm” cusses at “prime suspects” like this, asshole?”

Bobby has seen many a great Clint Eastwood motions pictures because he gave me every name in the book. I ended with, “stick to tech support” Amir, and hung up.

I slept fine last night. In the future, use the great tactics listed above.

I have been recieving these BS calls for at least 3 months. They call from hundreds of phone numbers 8-10 times a day & leave at least 3-4 messages a day. ALWAYS THE SAME GUY. Clearly Indian/middle eastern/some dirty MF’er trying to pass himself off as “Alex Scott” or “Mark Johnson” with a different fake law firm name, sherrif’s office or investigation agency every time. These are truly the most worthless type of people on the planet; taking up my air space. They talk over you, yell loudly, swear, threaten, the list goes on. This was my first & most obvious indication it was clearly a scam. They read scripts just fine (well not really, you’d be lucky to decpiher 10% of what they say) & use key phrases like “you wll be met at your home or place of enployment and dragged to jail” or my personal favorite, the soft demonic whisper of “GOOD LUCK….” This is like some sh!t out of a bad movie. The police say they cant do anything since it is only considered a harrasing phonecall, but when they call my work DAILY and tell whoever picks up the phone that I owe them money or will be dragged to jail or play with their dicks (yes they’ve gone that low) and I cant get any legal help it’s EXTREMELY frustrating. I’ve told them three times that I know they’re a scam and have filed X # of police reports…. they just start to yell over you until either they or you hang up. Then they call right back. It’s beyond harrassment when you call ME, a DEBT FREE hard working 26 yr old female a “stupid american” that either needs to pay up or suck his dick. My only escape is going to be changing my cell #… but they’l still keep calling my work, and this is still never going to end until someone (a cop, FBI agent, NATIONAL SECURITY, anyone for Christ’s sake!!) puts some effort into cathing these a$$holes and putting them behind bars; left in a dirty shower to be raped 6x/day like my poor, sore phone’s been for months. Hey Indians if you’re reading this — you’re a JOKE and everyone knows it; do the tax payers a favor and put a bullet in your ugly heads so when you get “dragged off to prison” (sound familiar?) I’M not the one paying for your metal cot & dirty toilet. I would pay to see it though. TO EVERYONE ELSE — you’re not alone and this is getting worse & worse by the day… it has to be stopped. Innocent people that work 45+ hr/wk jobs like myself may be having their bank accounts emptied as we speak and there doesn’t appear to be any rush for anyone to do ANYTHING about it!! Someone PLEASE email me @ intoxicateme672 at yahoo dot come with a fool-proof tip as to how to put an end to this!

I too have been harassed by these people. It’s been going on for months, but yesterday I had reached my breaking point because they called my place of employment. I called the number back and spoke with “Joseph” Joseph told me that I was being charged with check fraud and failure to pay my loan back. He wouldn’t tell me which loan it was, as I am current on all of my loans. He said they would continue to contact my employer because they were going to garnish my wages. I said you can’t do that. I started to get more and more heated by the second. He said that’s the problem with you people. You don’t pay your bills and then when you hear your wages are going to be garnished you start to flip out. I said why don’t you tell me what this is all about and he said we need to know if you are going to settle this today and I said no and I screamed f you into the phone and hung up. I called back and spoke with “Raymond” I explained to him what happened on the phone with Joseph and he said we are the payday loan that you have defaulted on and I said really…because I was just told you are a collection agency. I said why don’t you tell me which loan I have defaulted on because all of my loans have been paid off or are being paid off as we speak. He said the company we work for is called US Cash Net and said a bunch of pay day lenders use them, so he couldn’t pinpoint which lender it was that I owed. I said how much do I supposedly owe $200 and he said it was that but now it’s over $2000 with legal fees and I said you people are pieces of s*** and hung up the phone on him. Now, just to put my mind at ease, I called 2 of the payday loans and explained to them the phone call I just received. The one told me that my loan has been paid off and informed of the scam called the India Scam and to get in contact with the 3 credit agencies to alert them. The other one just told me that my loan was paid off.

He said I was being sued; I told him to have me served with the papers. I told him not to contact me at work and he replied “we will, if we have to.” Calling a person at work after they specifically direct you not to is in violation of federal law. Hello DumbA** what attorney’s office doesn’t leave the name of the Attorney’s? Where’s your professional etiquette? I seriously doubt any professional will refer to a pending case as a “legal mess” on a voicemail. You’re calling me to threaten me over court documents? And why the hell are you calling my work. This is the second call I’ve received over the last couple of days. Last week after they called I continued to call them back and harass them until they finally disconnected the phone number later that night. That Indian said his name was Joseph White. Today I received another call and the accent is so thick that I’m not sure what he was even saying, but I called them back to harass them and he was cursing. Said that he was going to f*ck my mother. Real professional. Said that they’re from Cash Advance America and they work for the Anderson Law Firm. Well I contacted the Anderson Law Firm to let them know that these scumbags are using their name to try and scam people. Is there no way that these can be stopped?

    Called from:

When I ask him which office he is calling from he said “Law Office”! I said what is the name of your company he started spelling “L.a.w O.f.f.i.c.e”. I started laughing so hard he got offended. I said no law firm is just called Law Office, and that I was not going to be threatened by someone from India with a computer, hacking into people’s accounts, and just hung up!

    Hopefully, he’ll get the message.

THE FIRST INDIAN OR FOREIGNER THAT CALLED ME WAS JAMES BARKER OR PARKER. COULDN’T REALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT HE WAS SAYING. I TOLD HIM THAT I NEVER HEARD OF EASY CASH AND NEVER DID BUSINESS WITH THEM AND THAT I NEEDED TO GO HOME AND CHECK MY RECORDS. HE GAVE ME A NUMBER TO CALL HIM BACK TODAY AT 8AM (213) 261-7624. I HAD TO LEAVE A MESSAGE. I STEPPED OUT OF THE OFFICE AND WHEN I RETURNED THERE WAS A MESSAGE LEFT ON MY DESK TO CALL A ALEXANDER WATSON AT THIS SAME NUMBER. I DID, AND ONCE AGAIN I TOLD HIM I KNEW OF NO EASY CASH . HE BEGAN TO TELLME ABOUT THE MONEY I OWED AND THAT I WOULD BE SERVED AT MY JOB TOMORROW AND IT WOULD THEN COST ME $3,780.00. I REQUESTED MORE TIME AND IMMEDIATELY CAME HOME AND CALLED PAY DAY COMPANIES I HAD DEALT WITH IN THE PAST. THEY ALL CONFIRMED THAT THEY HAD NO TIES TO THIS COMPANY AND TO CONTACT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL IMMEDIATLEY.

I also received a call from these same people-India with heavy accents. I have to admit that it did intimidate me because I did have a PDL that I had taken out. The PDL was still unpaid, so, I really thought they had sent this to a collection agency. I looked through my bank records, contacted the PDL company that I had taken a loan from and told them what was going on. They warned me that this is a scam and they don’t operate like this. They were very gracious and assisted me with making arrangments to pay off my loan. The telephone # of the people that contacted me is 888-586-0485; they gave the names Henry and Ronald Davis. After i contacted the PDL people, I called back and spoke with them and told them I am going to report them for fraud to the police; they got very loud claiming they were submitting an affadavit to state of california pressing charges against me for fraud. I hung up on him after I told him I would be calling the police. The also had nerve to call my friend with this mess about me. I warned her who they were so now she knows to look out for their number. I have changed my account however, I feel bad for the many people that have been scared into paying them.

They are downloading the actual complaint and I will no longer be employed after next week. They always end with “May God Help You”. At first I did answer the phone and they never let me talk but continued to scream and yell at me. My husband returned a call and they did the same to him. It is now a standing joke and we just ignore their calls. You never know what number they will call from but mostly 0000. They have become more of bother now then a threat.

Ok so I just got another one of those calls, in fact I have had a rather fun time with him. I told him I had all day nothing else to do I didn’t mind as long as he was on the phone with me he wasn’t bothering anyone else and couldn’t scam anyone one cause I certainly was not going to pay. But here is my problem he has all my teenage daughters info. So I decided today that because I have call screening and call fowarding, I fowarded all calls from both numbers that they have used to the local police department. The next time they call from the number try that out. Here’s something else maybe if everyone does this either the government will finally do something about it or the scamers will try something else. Now I know they will call again with another phone number but each time I will do the same thing from now on. The number used today shows up as arlington, TX and is 817-404-4061. have fun and I am sure we will chat again about it.

Ha! I have been getting calls from the same people, but they’re using a new number now which is 310-495-5211. Of course, it’s another middle eastern woman who claims her name is Christina Johnson. I laughed at her and she put some guy on the phone who said he would rape me or send the police to my house if I didn’t pay the payday loan. (This was at work)

    I laughed some more

He then said he would rape my kids

    I laughed some more

Then the people I work with got on the phone and started laughing at him to. He then hung up the phone just to start calling my cell phone number.

I then “acted” like I was terrified and I begged them if I could give them my attorney’s information. He said said yes… so I gave him 202-324-3000 and asked him to ask for the Fraud Department.

Little did he know that was the number to the FBI headquarters. LOL

I haven’t heard from those bastards since. Maybe we should all give them the number to our “new” banks so this can be settled (a.k.a. FBI number).

HA! We’ve been having the calls for awhile now…only they aren’t calling for me they are calling for an employee of ours. This particular employee has made a few bad choices in the past so at first we thought the calls were legit…only AFTER they cussed us out…did we realize something wasn’t quite right. They call, we hang up, they call right back…this usually last for over an hour. This has been week 3 or 4 now…it’s getting beyond frustrating.
The FBI and our police department here both said there was nothing we could do. Sadly, we can’t even ignore the calls b/c we never know if they are an actual customer or one of these jerks.

Wow, I started getting phone calls yesterday, its amazaing the eery feeling I get reading these comments…exact same message, only I guess mine likes Fast and Furious movies, his name is Paul Walker, very India sounding, left 4 messages yesterday, actually scared me when I talked to them, because I do have a payday loan (yeah i know, hindsight I will never do it again)….the phone he tells to call back is 949-204-0993, so finally I got mad and called back, got angry with them because they called it a legal mess and spouted off a few charges, and said they were charging my place of employment as well…freaky the call shows on my caller ID simply 523346, no area code or nothing….thanks for the words of wisdom, I’m glad I didn’t pay them anything!!!! Lets have some fun with them..

These idiots keep calling my job too. When they first called it scared the crap out of me and I asked them for copies of the affidavit that they were reading and the name of the company that I supposedly got this payday loan from, they told me “We can’t give that to you until we get your attorney’s information” so I knew something was up. Then I asked for the company that has me as a prime suspect and they told me American Payday Loans and someone else with a heavy accent named Kevin answered so I put 2 and 2 together. I remembered seeing this story on the news and I found this website. BTW, thanks for the FBI suggestion. They called and asked for me (obviously they didn’t know it was me) and I told them that “she wasn’t in the office, but she can be reached at this number 310-477-6565″ I hope they did call that number, it was to my local FBI…….LOL

I too was called by an Indian or Hindu guy who tried to scare the crap out of me. He left a phone call message that h it was an emergency to call him back and it was about “the settlement.” So, I call him knowing that no one in their right minds leaves messages like this to anyone in the business world, money owed or not. He said his name was Norman something, so I ask for Norman and a thick-accented Hindi man says he’s Norman Whatever. Rrrright. He said I was a suspect in a lawsuit and blah blah blah that I owe 789.63 because of an American Payday Loan I never paid back. I smelled a scam. I let it continue and got as much info as I could from my new friend Norman. After reading my post, why not give Norman a call, if you feel like entertaining yourself. Here’s Norman’s #: 949-204-0993. He told me to send a person-to-person Western Union thingee for $789.63 to Gary Gibbons. City: Bradenton. State: FL. OK. I called him back and told him I did not send the money to him but instead did him a favor by going to the police in NY with Gary Gibbons name. I said, the cops should be there right now in Bradenton, Florida, looking for your buddy Gary.

I received a fraudulent call from Willie and Wilson Law in Naperville, Illinois. The call originated from Plano, Illinois. I reported it to the township police department where I work, because they were threatening to have me arrested at my job. Also filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission. The number to be wary of is 630-332-0797. If you receive a call from these scammers then take the following action… I just called the Attorney General’s office for Illinois. There are strength in numbers! Call them too. They stated to me in the Identity Theft Department that the calls are bouncing off of towers and orignatingin Nigeria. Contact:

So these jacklegs have been harassing me, too! Today they called me at work and my co worker put them in my voicemail. The bastard called back and I answered the call. I told them first that they called my work number and if they had important business matters to speak to me about to call my cell phone. The dude said “but you don’t know why I am calling, why are you mad”? I asked him to tell me why he called then. He said that he was calling from the FBI about financing and that he was collecting or I would go to jail. I told him that I owed no finance company, and he said I have your SSN (which he read back correctly, this was the only thing that scared the S**T out of me). He asked me if that was correct and I told him NO (like I will verify my SSN to this idiot or anyone else over the phone). When I said it wasn’t mine, he hung up. He has not called me back at work, and I don’t think he’s called my cell number. I’m having my bank accounts switched and having my credit ran to check everything out. Also, I talked to a law enforcement officer and he said if they call back to “fake” like you are so sorry and willing to pay whatever to avoid going to jail, court, etc. Get as much info as you can (names, addresses, phone numbers) and ask for court docket numbers, the courthouse where filed, the clerk who filed the paperwork, etc. and file a report on them. It may not end everyone’s troubles, but if they call back, I am going to give an Oscar winning performance and hopefully put an end to them harassing me once and for all. Sadly, I have no idea how they got my info–I do not do payday loans and the only online financing I have applied for was through Honda Motor Co. for a new car.

I have been dealing with these people for 2 years now. It has actually become quite entertaining. Sad for those that fall for it. Funny to me, after learning who they are. I have had some pretty comical blow out arguments with these assholes. I tell them I am an Attorney. I have told them many BS stories just to humor myself. Even my coworkers have been able to take some anger out on them. So I’m helping them as well…haha. my blood does still boil though when I think about all the people that fall for this. I like how they told me today that I was going to be executed this Thursday. Me or my case??? When I spoke with the attorney general they informed me that they had traced calls back to the caribbeans.

My husband and I have been getting these calls for about a year now. A new phone number didn’t shake them from our tail. So, we finally figured, if we cant get them to stop calling us, we can at least get some laughs out of this.

This morning, some asshole called and left a message (thick Indian accent et al.) telling us we needed to call him and pay a debt on a payday loan or we would go to jail. We called him back and convinced him that he had called a police station and was wanted for murder.

A couple of hours later, someone else tried to call. They tried to follow the exact same script. So, this time, I just meowed into the phone until the guy hung up. :P

Look, these guys are honestly never going to stop calling you. But a few phone calls is the worst thing they can do to you. So, you can either ignore them and let it go to voicemail or you can do one better and spend some time messing with them. Just don’t let them piss you off or you’re letting them win. Flip the tables and maybe they’ll get sick of calling you. At the very least, you’ll get a kick out of it!

  77. BearSeason
    on Dec 20th, 2011
    @ 4:40 AM

Paula, the reason they cannot be found and stopped is because, despite the fact that the phone numbers they are using makes it look like they are calling from within the US, they are really calling from a call center in India. They are using a VOIP system like Skype or Google Voice to get free American basied phone numbers that are untraceable.

Our government can’t do anything to stop this because these scammers are operating from outside of the country and therefore, are outside of the jurisdiction. This will only stop if and when the Indian government steps in and decides to do something about it. Don’t expect that to happen anytime soon.

I’m sorry you fell for this scam. It’s not your fault. You’re not even close to the only person that this has happened to. Right now, you need to close your bank account because these guys will be deducting more money from it in the very near future.

It’s pretty low that these people would try to defraud people out of money they KNOW these people don’t have. I recently looked into rates for payday loans for my credit rating in case I needed money for the holidays. I never agreed or accepted a dime, but the SAME DAY, I started getting calls from these east Indians about “debt collection” that sounded like they were making calls from a crowded marketplace. Nice way to expose your scam from day one. That wasn’t a problem as much as it was that they were calling my job every other day trying to scam my boss into garnishing my wages to pay them off. Luckily, that was only a contractor’s job which ran out last month, but that is something to be aware of. If you start getting these calls, let your boss know before they start calling your job.

I thought I was giving my information in strict confidence like when I applied for a credit line with PayPal or a credit card company online, but this is clearly not the case when dealing with Payday loan referrals.

You know the number when you see it come up on the Phone…Just Do this…. answer the phone and say this…..(holding the phone away up high from your mouth)…”hey, hey this is it….run the trace….(now put the phone to your mouth and answer)….”Sgt (input your last name here)… 9/10 times they hang up! they will try from a different #… just keep answering any wierd out of place looking number that calls your phone… eventually they will just leave you alone and move on… if one is dumb enough to speak… Speak with Confidence… and just say.. In what Regards does this pertain to? and just go.. unhuh…unhuh..i see..i see.(then pull the phone away up high again and say)… you got it locked in?….(bring the phone back to your mouth and say) Well Mr ??????… Ty for your time..but the Embassy of the United States in New Delhi, India & your Local Authorities will be handling this Issue for me personally.. Have a Good Day!….
